Welcome to the Mach 2 Blog

We've started this blog so we can publish news and views by Mach 2 sailors for Mach 2 sailors. And for journalists who've got to write about something and need inspiration. If you've arrived here, but need information about the boat, the brand and how to order please go to our corporate site.
This site does not have any of that information, so why does it exist? Well in this, the "Next Generation" of our sport, the corporate site could be likened to the "Vulcan neck pinch", professional, efficient and slick. Not half as powerful as the "Vulcan kick in the bollocks" though, but more politically correct. Sometimes you need both.. Send us you news, read what we have to say, and enjoy..

If you dont know me by now..

Moth sailors are a charistmatic bunch, bursting with opinions, creativity and vision. Bascially they are interesting and get things done. Admittedly sometimes they have low to medium levels of personal hygene but you'd probably be better off getting stuck next to one at a cocktail party than almost any other type of person.

What they do, how they do it and the stories they write in life can't be captured in a corporate site. That's what we want to do here..

So to start. What about us? What do we like? We'll after an incredible 12 months where this time last year we were learning the Chinese for acetone (Bing Tong by the way) in McConaghy's factory in Zhuhai China we are now up to 83 boats sold. So what do we like?

We like:-

- Mach 2 customers. Thank you to each of you.

- Potential Mach 2 customers. Potential thank you to each of you.

-Thierry Martinez

- Bora Gulari

- Susan Boyle

- One of the SugerBabes but can't remember which..

What we dont like:-

- Not much

- Seeing good sailors leave the class

- Getting old

- Keynesian theory of cyclical recession

Reading about what people do, what went well, what didn't, what was funny, and what wasn't makes us more than just a bunch of boat owners, it makes us a community, a bunch of friends. Each Mach 2 writes its own book, you are the Editor. Send us your stuff?

  1. OK well I'll kick this off. As I said, I think a Facebook group might work better for this.

Anyhow: here we are sailors of originality and distinction (in some cases) choosing to sail one of the most advanced craft available. And yet if all 67 of us were to line up on a start, we'd have nothing more to distinguish our boats than the odd mainsail luff or sponsor's sticker.

In short we might as well be Laser sailors. The Moth once was the home of individuality. How come there's so little effort made to personalise the Bladeriders and Mach 2s? Apart from Bora's rather nice US Mustang aircraft decal, I can't think of anything that stands out. Cookie may lack colour sense, but at least you can see hime coming.

Anyone planning to pimp their Mach 2?

  2. The colours are so Emma can see me from the shore! I'm quite happy to do resprays on M2's for the more interesting owners out there but I realise that most of you are too afraid of being spotted on the start line...

  3. Thanks Simon. We tried a facebook groups but that didnt seem to take off. It's a good point you make though and even the traditional ritual of naming a boat seems to be disappearing these days. A new Moth is a blank canvas, maybe we should have a concours competition at each event?
